Intensive Care/Critical Care Unit

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a 36 bed unit which provides intensive care and monitoring services to critically ill adult patients. The ICU is a combined intensive medical, surgical, and cardiac care unit composed of three separate 12 bed “pods”. The ICU practices a primary nursing care delivery model, with Registered Nurses responsible for the overall provision of nursing care.

The ICU provides care for the critically ill adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient population (age 14 and older). The ICU does not provide care to a pediatric or newborn patient population.

The ICU maintains a formal and detailed admission criteria that has been approved by the Medical Staff. The reader is referred to that document for further information.

The ICU offers a full array of critical care services. These services include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:

• Basic Nursing Care
• Cardiac Monitoring
• Cardioversion / Defibrillation
• Temporary Cardiac Pacing
• Pulmonary Artery and Arterial Monitoring
• Intubation
• Mechanical Ventilation
• Oxygen Administration
• Pulse Oximetry
• Intra-aortic Balloon Pumping
• Acute Hemodialysis
• Medication and Fluid Administration — Including Thrombolysis and Vasoactive Medications
• Insertion and Monitoring of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Devices
• Skin, Wound, and Decubiti Care
• Patient / Family Education

The ICU is available and staffed 24 hours per day, seven days per week, and 365 days per year.

• Visitors are restricted to family members only.
• Only two visitors at a time are allowed: ten minutes each hour, 24 hours a day. During shift change from 6:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. no visitors are allowed. This time is reserved for the nurses to give shift change reports.
• Children are welcome to remain in the ICU waiting area, but they must be under adult supervision at all times.
• All visitors must request entrance to the unit using the telephone or speaking with the security officer in the waiting area. This will insure that the patient is medically stable for visitors.

Telemetry Unit

The Telemetry Unit is a 36 bed that provides services to a acutely ill patient population in need of continuous cardiac monitoring. The unit practices a combination of team or primary nursing care delivery models, with Registered Nurses being responsible for the overall care provided.

The Telemetry Unit provides care for the acutely ill adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient population (age 14 and older). The Telemetry Unit does not provide care to pediatric or newborn patients.

The Telemetry Unit is available and staffed 24 hours per day, seven days per week, and 365 days per year.

Patient visiting hours are from 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

No children under the age of 14 years of age are permitted. An adult must accompany adolescents 14 – 17 years of age.

Only four (4) visitors at a time are allowed in patient rooms.

Visitors may be asked to step out of the room in order for the nurse to care for your loved one. A waiting area is located next to the elevators.
