Our first priority is making your labor and delivery as safe and comfortable as possible. We have several birthing options that you may consider as well as several options for anesthesia and pain management during your delivery. We encourage you to discuss your preferences and what is appropriate for you with your doctor. Also, with your doctor’s permission, your partner and family can be with you throughout your labor and delivery.

Pain Management During Labor

Each woman has her own unique labor experience. Pain tolerance also varies from woman to woman. There are many types of medications and anesthesia available to reduce the discomfort of childbirth and to help you relax. The type and amount of medication depends on several factors, such as the stage of your labor, the degree of pain relief needed, and the condition of you and your baby. You and your doctor will decide what is best for you.

Pain Relief Options

Analgesics provide some pain relief without total loss of feeling or alertness. They lessen your discomfort during intense contractions, and you may even doze between contractions.
Regional Anesthesia (Epidural or Spinal) may be used to numb your lower body during vaginal or cesarean birth. The anesthetic is injected into your back and may eliminate the sensation of contractions during labor and delivery of your baby.
General Anesthesia is most often used when an urgent cesarean section needs to be performed. A general anesthesia lets you sleep during surgery.

Newborn Nursery

You may have your baby stay with you in your room 24-hours a day or you may have your newborn cared for in the newborn nursery. We encourage you to have your baby stay in your room with you as much as possible. This way, you can become more comfortable with your newborn and your nurse or doctor can answer any questions you may have while you are caring for your baby.

Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery
Should your baby need extra care and medical attention our Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery is equipped with advanced medical technology and staffed around the clock with doctors and nurses.

Pediatric Exam

After your baby is born a pediatrician will thoroughly examine your baby. Be sure to discuss any concerns or ask any questions you have about your baby with the pediatrician.

Breastfeeding Assistance

Whether you choose to breastfeed or bottle-feed our professional staff will help you. If you choose to breastfeed, our professional staff will be glad to help you with your nursing efforts.

Security for Your Baby

Your peace of mind is one of our primary concerns. Our Family Life Unit is equipped with a closed-circuit camera security system that surrounds all of the maternity units. We control entry to every area and require all visitors to wear badges. In addition, each baby wears two identification bands that match the identification bands of the mother and father (or significant other). Only designated hospital personnel can remove the bands and they remain on your baby until discharge.
