St. Francis Children’s Counseling Center was founded with the goal of preventing and treating child abuse. Its mission has evolved to provide comprehensive mental health, case management and medication services with the goal of decreasing symptoms of emotional and behavioral distress. Services are provided in a nurturing, culturally and linguistically sensitive, comfortable atmosphere where an individual’s emotions are received with a spirit of compassion.

The Children’s Counseling Center offers the following evidenced-based practice specialized programs:

  • Trauma Focused CBT ‒ treatment of trauma (4-18+ years old)
  • Interpersonal Psychotherapy for Depression ‒ treatment of depression (12–18+ years old)
  • Alternatives for Families CBT ‒ treatment of exposure to violence and/or abuse (4-18+ years old)
  • Positive Parenting ‒ parenting skill enhancement for caregivers

Other service options:

  • Traditional treatment ‒ treatment of a variety of presenting problems (4–21 years old)
  • Case Management Services ‒ services assisting clients with necessary adjunctive resources and linkages
  • Medication Support Services ‒ evaluation of the need for, and ongoing monitoring of the use of psychotropic medication
  • Psychological Testing ‒ assessment of personality, development and cognitive functioning
  • School-based Services (to selected schools only)

The Children’s Counseling Center operates from two locations. One location is on the St. Francis Medical Center campus, and the satellite office is located in the city of South Gate.
