St. Francis Medical Center provides a Psychiatric Evaluation Team (PET) that conducts mobile crisis evaluation services by licensed mental health professionals.  This team serves the county of Los Angeles in evaluating those persons who are experiencing, or are at risk of experiencing, a psychological crisis.  Often, the team is called by family members, friends, clergy, or other concerned persons interested in the individual’s welfare.  Sometimes the evaluation requires a voluntary or involuntary hospitalization in order to stabilize the person in crisis.  The team members have the legal authority per the Welfare and Institutions Code (WIC) 5150 to perform these assessments.  In cases requiring involuntary hospitalizations, the team will arrange transport to a psychiatric facility in which help is available.

The Behavioral Health Services department can be reached at (310) 900-8210.
